Two parts don’t always make a whole
Two hearts oft fail to make a home
I pause to pick up the porcelain pieces
Of lapis-lined plates from our nieces
On the day we traded beer for wine
When you vowed to be forever mine
All dressed up in my shiniest suit
Tailored to fit but I’ll never suit you
You beautiful bruise, so tempting a ruse
The one I can’t bear to live or lose
I know now of my place in this hearth
Is nothing more than decorative earth
If radiance in numbers is what you need
I’ll shatter myself until you’re appeased
But if your flame for me has flickered out
Don’t you dare look back; just let me out
