May consumption surmount the wasteful need
To devour and purge the field sullied
Pray yield and sublime this furious mind
And leave in chains the beast behind
Who purloins fear and pays by roar
Who squanders near but searches far
For what she lacks in grieving night
Must recompense in appetite
Gone by day one’s dim delusion
For hunger lures with ill illusion
Drift away to mellifluous remedies
Ne’er to wake from her rockabye melodies
